These days it’s possible to get a great deal on pretty much anything, from cocktails in Covent Garden to beach breaks in Barcelona. While I was at first dubious about the craze, as I hate coming off as a cheap skate and typical bargain hunter, I soon realised that I had to swallow my pride and jump on the bandwagon of the penny saving social life.
Travelzoo is a really good site, and its not just for holidays! Their entertainment deals include everything from West End shows to Afternoon Tea, and in my experience, I have never been disappointed with any of their selections. One of the best deals they have had lately is the spa day for two at K-West Hotel and Spa in West London. The deal has now ended but keep an eye out as it has also been spotted on other deal sites, including Living Social.
The Spa
The ‘wet spa’ itself is in a luxurious area of the hotel basement floor, and you are requested to leave your mobile phones in the changing rooms. While many of us can’t cope without checking emails, posting to Instagram, of updating our Twitter page, it does mean you can really relax and let go. The spa works by taking you on a ‘spa journey’ through different temperatures and environments, the most innovative and unique being the -15 degrees Snow Paradise. The first of its kind in London, and developed by German spa specialists, the Snow Paradise feels a bit like standing in a walk in freezer, except you’re in your swimsuit (it sounds unbearable, but it really is quite refreshing!).
The idea of the spa journey works by moving your body from the chilly Snow Paradise to the sizzling Scandinavian Sauna and Steam Room. The sudden change in temperature is really good for your immune system, while the sauna and steam room will really purify your skin and totally relax you, and the aromatherapy scents in the Sanarium (which is a bit like the sauna but with reduced humidity) soothe your mind and spirit. The best part of the spa has got to be the glass panelled hydrotherapy pool. You’ll feel like a child in a playground when you step in, as you discover all the buttons around the side that switch various water bubbles and fountains on. Once you’ve finished playing, you can submerge yourself in the warm, muscle relaxing bubbles and lay back on one of the underwater relaxation beds! You can also enjoy warm foot baths, and the Kuddle Cabins, designed to encourage relaxation between spa circuits.
Treatments
Indulging in a luxurious treatment at K-West Spa is a must. The Cool Down pedicure is 45 minutes worth of relaxation for your tired feet – ideal after a busy week at work, or pounding Westfield after some hardcore retail therapy! Spa packages at K-West are also available, giving you hours of pampering. I’m lusting after the Time Out Experience, which is two hours of bespoke face and body treatment.
Kanteen
The Kanteen restaurant at K-West Hotel and Spa is a great break from relaxation, and you don’t even have to get dressed. We waddled through in our robes and slippers and sat down to a delicious two course lunch. With it being a spa, we expected to be served a range of lentils, beans and leaves, along with a glass of something thick and green, said to be food, but more likely pond weed. But we were wrong! The menu boasts soup, steak, gourmet burgers, warm chocolate brownies, and creme brulée! It’s definitely worth a visit.
Tucked away in a secluded corner of Shepherds Bush, just a stone’s throw from Westfield London, the K-West Hotel and Spa is the perfect relaxation retreat – its no wonder it won the Best Luxury Hotel Spa award in 2011! It certainly lives up to its title.
